Jerudong International School (JIS) in Brunei is an outstanding British International, co-educational Day and Boarding School with a community of over 1660 students, aged 2-18 years old, from 45 countries. Academic Excellence
JIS students consistently achieve outstanding results in their examinations and we are proud to see them enter into the best universities around the world every year. 2023 was no different. Over 53% of JIS students achieved A*, A or B in their A Levels. JIS graduate, Wesley Lim, achieved 4 A*s and was awarded the Outstanding Pearson Learner Award for the highest mark in the world in Pearson Edexcel International A Level Economics. The IB Diploma results continue to be outstanding, with JIS students achieving an average score of 34.83 exceeding the world average IB Diploma point of 30.24. 179 students were awarded IGCSE grades with over 58% of all I/GCSE grades awarded being A* to A and 93% being A* to C.
Our specialist team of Higher Education advisors guide and prepare students for their university applications. 2023 graduate destinations include and are not limited to: University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London, University of Warwick, University of Bristol, University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, University of Melbourne, Monash University, University of Groningen, the National University of Singapore and Seoul National University of Science and Technology.
Campus
We believe that education goes beyond the classroom. That's why we provide exceptional facilities that are fully connected to Wi-Fi, including 27 state-of-the-art science laboratories, an extensive Performing Arts Centre and music faculty, as well as art, design and technology studios. Our library provides a comfortable and modern learning space for our students. The Outdoor Discovery Centre - an eco-forestry initiative on the campus is regularly used for activities and as an Outdoor Classroom.
Our sports facilities are second to none, with two swimming pools (including an Olympic size - 50 metres pool), three air-conditioned sports halls, three covered netball/basketball courts and three football/rugby pitches. A bespoke Racquet Sports Centre includes four squash courts, two championship level tennis courts, and cricket practice nets.
Boarding Facilities
The Boarding facilities for students cater to the needs of our 160 weekly boarders and 60 full boarders. There are two girls’ Houses (Osprey and Kingfisher House) and two boys' Houses (Eagle and Ibis House). Dedicated boarding staff provide comprehensive care for students, offering support and guidance and initiatives specifically catered to the needs of our boarders.
Pastoral Care
All students and teachers in the school are members of a House, which is designed to provide pastoral care, foster competition and promote camaraderie among the students.
There are 16 Houses in the Senior School, all named after birds in Borneo, which are single-gendered. The brother and sister Houses collaborate for a range of events and social activities.
Each House has its own leadership team, including a House Captain and Deputy Captain, as well as other students in various unique leadership positions. House competitions take place weekly and include a variety of events such as sports, arts, talent shows, debates, spelling bees and quizzes.
Co-curricular Programme
At JIS, nurturing our students' talents and interests is important to us. We offer a strong co-curricular programme with almost 300 activities to choose from, including a wide range of sports and arts activities, the International Award (DoE) programme and the Model United Nations club. Encouraging engagement in co-curricular activities goes far beyond the confines of our campus. Our students are provided with enriching opportunities to participate in a range of local and international events, including FOBISIA competitions, UK Maths and Science Olympiads, Dive club, Music competitions across Asia. These all offer invaluable opportunities which will shape our students into well-rounded compassionate global citizens ready to inspire positive change and for success after JIS.
