The ceremony was held at the residence of the British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley. The founder and president of King’s Group, Sir Roger Fry, presented the scholarship to the successful candidate Laura Moodie. The parents of Ignacio Echeverría, Joaquín Echeverría and Ana Miralles de Imperial, also attended the event.

On Tuesday 10th of July, the presentation ceremony of the first ever “Ignacio Echeverría” scholarship took place at the residence of the British Ambassador of Spain, Simon Manley. The scholarship, awarded by King’s College schools, was created in honour of the young Spaniard who lost his life in the London terror attacks on the 3rd of June 2017.

The Ignacio Echeverría scholarship gives successful candidates the opportunity to study in the Sixth Form at , Soto de Viñuelas in Madrid. Given the nature of the “Ignacio Echeverría” Scholarship, it rewards both the academic talent and the social commitment of young people.

The first recipient of the Ignacio Echeverría scholarship, Laura Moodie, was selected not only for her excellent and promising academic record, but also for her admirable work volunteering in various social activities, including her commendable experience teaching English to Syrian refugees.

The attendees at the ceremony included the president of the British Hispanic Foundation, Fidel López Álvarez, the Ambassador Simon Manley, and the founder and president of King’s College schools, Sir Roger Fry, who presented the scholarship certificate to the successful candidate Laura Moodie.

Also attending the event were the parents of Ignacio Echeverría, Joaquín Echeverría and Ana Miralles de Imperial.

“The Imperial Echeverría Miralles family is very proud that King's College has granted this honour to Ignacio Echeverría. Laura Moodie is very deserving of this award, not only due to her academic effort, but because of the great social work she has already carried out, despite her young age,” said Joaquín Echeverría.

“This scholarship is an incredible opportunity to study at a school that has a rich and inspirational curriculum which would not have been available to me had I stayed in the UK. I suspect when I look back at my time at King’s I will see this as a pivotal point of my life. I very much appreciate that this scholarship values charitable work and I hope that the next two years will equip me to contribute towards creating a fairer world,” said Laura Moodie, who will start her studies at King’s College this September.
